I've been making art of one kind or another for as long as I can remember; but until a couple of years ago, my art took a back seat to other "real" jobs. Ironically, the reality is that I AM an artist, and making art is the passion that drives my days. So now, my "real" job finally matches my real self.
Like most, I started with drawing, then on to painting, and then exploring various mediums over the years. I earned a BA in Studio Fine Arts along the way. That winding path has taken me to my current focus - Contemporary Craft. I have always been fascinated with texture, and am endlessly inspired by the shapes and surfaces - a sort of visual rhythm - found in nature.
Almost all of my work involves paper and up-cycled materials. I hate waste, and enjoy the challenge of making art with whatever I have on hand at the time. When I need to replenish stock, I start with our local re-use center. I take materials that have traditionally been used for another purpose in the home and change their destiny. Thus, Contemporary Craft.
